Art and the Kuba Culture Blade

My first year in Museum Studies Master’s Program: I was assigned to do research on the importance of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Kuba Culture Blade by Dr. Reip. I was not all that excited but once I began the research that all changed really quickly. The Kuba Culture or Bushongo group is known for cultivating many items and artifacts, but the significance of the Blade and the Kingship connection all of the powerful the meanings behind the Kuba Blade represent a Political Unity of chiefdoms, and how when necessary that Kuba blade is used to deliver swift punishment. The King keep the Kuba Blade stuffed and tucked in the sleeve of his African regalia, but even hidden away it still commands and equalizes the attention of the Kuba Culture Peoples. Blacksmith and engraving are one of Kuba’s Culture’s oldest and continued practiced art forms. The furnace hammered depictions of Kings Sovereignty are associated with a sacred art form that continues to inspire admiration for the various African Continents,   The unique context, style, and sophistication expand widely among the kingships, The Kuba metalwork designs can be divided into three broad geographical regions; Southern, Central, and Northern, The art on the blade distinctive and easily recognizable as a visual language even to the untrained eye.
